What has happened to most of the Army-Navy Stores?
Many army-navy stores have closed due to challenges like high overhead costs and competition from online sales. The demand for traditional surplus items has also decreased, leading to a decline in these types of stores.
The other problem is the supply chain dried up. Most old school army navy surplus stores acquired their goods from government auctions on the military installations, but after 911, that changed. The auctions were discontinued and moved online into the digital market, which made it more competitive and weeded out small dealers without much capital to operate.
